Celebrating 10 years of the Berkshire Gardens Trust
The inaugural meeting of the BGT had taken place at Englefield House in 2009 and so it was fitting that we should enjoy a celebration of reaching 10 years of the Trust along with visiting Englefield’s resplendent gardens. Many founder members were present at both occasions.
Over the most delectable afternoon tea we heard from our President, Dr Christina Hill Williams, about the achievements of the Berkshire Gardens Trust since its founding in 2008. Examples of the work were captured on display boards around The Long Gallery at Englefield House and Christina thanked all those who have contributed to the Trust’s successes. We act as consultee in the planning process and thanks went to those whose skilled responses that have informed planning decisions on landscape and garden development schemes.
Amongst the seventy or so guests we were delighted to receive many distinguished invitees who attended - Mayors from the Berkshire unitary authorities, James Puxley, Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire and Lucy Zeal, High Sherriff of the Royal County of Berkshire. The Trustees hosted the afternoon tea tables and Charles Elly, Chair, gave a warm speech where he looked to the future of the BGT.
The afternoon was hot and sunny and the atmosphere happy, vibrant, and relaxed throughout the formalities. Two photographers wended their way through the wonderful gardens and the Long Gallery capturing some lovely formal shots and many fun casual ones too.
If you get a chance, take a look at a copy of ‘Celebrating 10 years’ the memento booklet which showcases examples of all the activities that the Trust has been involved with so far – quite a body of work. It is available on the website or by contacting bgtmembership@gmail.com.
