Autumn Lecture & AGM:
Friday 11th October2019
The Factory in a Garden: Picturesque and Pictorial Landscapes for Labour in the early 20th Century.
Dr. Helena Chance
Following the formal AGM and light refreshments, our Autumn Lecture this year was given by Dr. Helena Chance. Helena is Associate Professor of Design Studies at Buckinghamshire New University, and is a design historian with a special interest in how people experience designed landscapes.
This lecture was based on her recently published book “The Factory in a Garden”. Helena looked at how offices and factories have incorporated outdoor spaces into their workplaces and followed the progress of the factory garden from the industrial revolution to the Second World War.
