EARLY SUMMER EVENING GARDEN VISIT

GUIDED TOUR OF THE DELIGHTFUL GARDENS AT BOXFORD HOUSE, BOXFORD, NEWBURY, RG20 8DP

6.30pm Tuesday 11th June 2024

We are very pleased to invite you to join us in a privately arranged evening visit to Boxford House gardens with the kind permission of the owners, Elizabeth and Alastair Storey.  This is a rare opportunity to see the wonderful gardens at Boxford House.  After an introduction by Elizabeth, we will be taken in small groups around the grounds by leading designer Meri Mower and their Head Gardener, Penny O’Connor.  Afterwards we will be able to enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles.

There were over time a number of different rectories associated with the Church, Boxford House, constructed in 1825, being one of them.  The house is Gothic revival, a style prevalent for important buildings at this time.  Built of Ashlar stone masonry, it displays many neo-Gothic details including stone mullioned windows and decorative grotesques.

The development of the Garden over the past decade has included some references to this neo Gothic aesthetic.  Many of the garden features refer to the gothic motifs of arches and the relationship with the Church.

While some credit needs to go to the designers over time involved in the layout of the Garden, much has changed in the past decade, including a level of complexity of planting that reflects the artistic natures of the present owners.  The Garden has softened the House within its setting and has made the most of the views over the adjacent countryside.

Our private visit will include:

•    A tour of the gardens in three groups from 6.30pm
•    A glass of wine and other refreshments and nibble
